The police has banned holding rallies and processions in some areas of the central Dehradun in view of the Christmas and New Year tourist rush.
The police said the decision has been made considering the inconvenience caused to the general public due to traffic congestion resulting from the large number of people expected to visit Dehradun and surrounding tourist destinations like Mussoorie in the coming days, as well as the frequent protests and processions occurring in the city during the ongoing wedding season.
According to the police, legal action will be taken against the organizers under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for organizing protests, processions, rallies, or using loudspeakers without permission at key locations in the city, including Ghantaghar, Gandhi Park, Parade Ground and its surrounding areas, Kanak Chowk, Ashley Hall Chowk, Darshan Lal Chowk, Tehsil Chowk, and Buddha Chowk.
