After the arrest of five people in the Angel Chakma murder case, the police has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on Yagyaraj Adhikari, the sixth accused, who is still at large as the pressure was mounting on the state government for stern action amid allegations of racial abuse with Tripura Chief Minister Prof Manik Saha speaking to his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami on the issue.

@pushkardhami Ji, regarding the tragic incident involving our student Angel Chakma, a resident of Nandanagar, Debram Thakur Para, who was brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants in Dehradun on 9th December and later he expires at Graphic Era Hospital.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed me that, in connection with the case, five accused have already been arrested. Further investigation is underway, and he has assured that justice will be delivered.”
Chakma, 24 year old MBA student studying in Dehradun, was killed after an attack by a group of six youths who were in inebriated state in the Selaquie market in the city on Dec 9. Chakma succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Dec 26.
Meanwhile, widespread protests have been reported from parts of the country against the killing of Chakma.
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has also condemned the killing of Chakma. “What’s happening in Uttarakhand? From Ankita Bhandari’s mysterious death to this blatant racism and intolerance leading to the murder of a young man from Tripura, brave son of a BSF constable. We should hang our heads in shame. A state government so busy with moral policing live in relationships should focus on law and order which is for all,” Chaturvedi said on X.
Amid allegations of racial abuse, the state police has stated that they have not come across any such slur so far in the case. But Chakma’s father Tarun Prasad has alleged that his son was racially abused before the murder. He demanded stern action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the last rites of Chakma were performed at his village Machmara in Tripura on Sunday.
Chief Minister Dhami on Sunday said his government has taken the murder of Angel Chakma, a student from Tripura, very seriously.
“Such incidents are unacceptable in the state,” Dhami said in a statement. He said the government will deal strictly with those involved in such acts of lawlessness. Those involved in these incidents will not be spared, Dhami said.
Five accused have been arrested so far in connection with the murder of Angel Chakma, a student of Machmara village in Unakoti district of Tripura. Two of the accused are minors and have been sent to a juvenile detention center. The police are continuously conducting raids to apprehend the one remaining absconding accused. A reward of Rs. 25,000 has been announced on the sixth accused who is absconding.
A police team has been sent to Nepal in nab the sixth accused, Dhami said.
The Chief Minister said that the absconding accused will soon be in police custody. He said that those who tamper with law and order should not expect any leniency from the government. Such elements will not be spared at any cost. “The state government is committed to the safety and security of every citizen residing in Uttarakhand,” he said.
