Healing a broken heart: CM Dhami speaks to Angel’s father

Trying to heal a broken heart, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday spoke to the Tarun Prasad Chakma, on phone, expressing grief over the murder his son Angel in Dehradun.

Angel Chakma (24), an MBA student who was studying in a private university in Dehradun, was killed after an attack by a group of six youths who were in inebriated state in the Selaquie market in the city on Dec 9. Chakma succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Dec 26. The family members of Chakma later alleged the goons also racially abused Chakma during the attack.

Dhami told Chakma’s father that five accused have already been arrested in the case. The sixth accused believed to have fled to Nepal. Police efforts are being made to apprehend the sixth accused. Already a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced to capture the sixth accused.

The Chief Minister told Tarun Chakma that he was personally saddened by the incident and understood the family’s plight at the hour of grief. He assured the aggrieved family that the Uttarakhand government would ensure that the culprits receive strict punishment.

Dhami said such an atmosphere was never witnessed in Uttarakhand where hundreds of students from across the country and abroad come to study. “Therefore, this incident is painful for all of us,” he said.

He said his government will take strict action in such cases. He mentioned that he had also spoken to Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, after the incident.

The Chief Minister said that the state government stands completely with the victim’s family. He would also speak to the Chief Minister of Tripura regarding assistance for the family, and the Uttarakhand government would provide all possible help to the family.
