The police investigations in the Anjel Chakma murder case in Uttarakhand have revealed that the knife attack occurred in less than 40-50 seconds in front of a liquor shop giving no time for the Tripura student to recover.
Even people in the surrounding areas of the Selaquie market in Dehradun failed to see what really happened when the attack occurred in the evening.
As the Dehradun police on Tuesday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder, the probe has hit a roadblock as the main accused Yagyaraj Awasthi of Nepal is still at large.
On the other hand, the police has also not found any evidence of racial abuse in the investigations so far.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh also claimed at a press conference that they are very close to apprehending the main accused, Yagyaraj Awasthi, who is believed to be hiding in Nepal.
He said that the Uttarakhand Police has also increased the reward announced for Awasthi from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
Singh said that the police have collected all the CCTV footage related to the incident that took place on December 9.
However, he said, “The complete truth behind the incident will only be revealed after the arrest of the main accused Awasthi, who stabbed Anjel.”
The SSP said the accused and the victim did not know each other and the entire incident happened “in the heat of the moment.”
