The Uttarakhand Vigilance Department has arrested Haridwar District Supply Officer Shyam Arya and his personal assistant Gaurav Sharma red-handed while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The action on Friday came as the Vigilance Department was getting reports of corruption in the Haridwar District Supply Office for quite some time. After verifying a complaint received from a ration dealer, the vigilance team laid a trap to catch Arya and Sharma and arrested them red-handed while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The vigilance team is conducting a thorough interrogation of both the accused at the Haridwar District Supply Office, and the records and other documents of the concerned office are also being meticulously examined.
Under the zero-tolerance policy against corruption, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given standing instructions to the Vigilance Department, Special Task Force (STF), and other investigating agencies to take action.
Dhami has also appealed to the people that if they have any complaint of corruption anywhere, they should report it without hesitation through the appropriate channels. He said that their identity would be kept confidential, and the government would ensure swift and impartial action.
