A video has gone viral on social media showing Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s wife Geeta Dhami moving to tears when she was narrating the achievements of her husband.
Getting highly emotional and breaking down in tears at the Uttarayani Kauthig festival at Parade Ground in Dehradun on Sunday night, she said her husband hasn’t even taken a single day off and is working tirelessly for the welfare of the people of Uttarakhand. “While serving for the state, he has not given a single day for his home because the whole state (Uttarakhand) is his family,” she said in a choked voice. “Even he has not spared a single day for himself,” she said.
She said that the Chief Minister has brought strict anti-cheating law and provided government jobs to children from 26,000 families in the state.
She said that she is not saying this merely because she is his wife, but because she has seen his hard work closely.
Wiping away her tears, Geeta Dhami further said some people have alleged that Dhami brought in the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to recognize the live-in relationships. But she said Dhami only formulated rules and regulations for it and didn’t recognize these relations.
The video has surfaced at a time when the Ankita Bhandari murder case has triggered outrage from the opposition and some social groups in Uttarakhand.
The Ankita Bhandari case recently gained renewed attention after Urmila Sanawar, the alleged actress wife of former state MLA Suresh Rathore, released videos of herself and audio recordings of her alleged conversations with Rathore on social media. In these videos, Sanawar alleged that the alleged ‘VIP’ in the Ankita murder case was BJP leader ‘Gattu’.
Following these revelations, a major movement erupted in the state, after which the Chief Minister recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter on January 9. But the opposition is demand that the CBI inquiry should be held under the supervision of a Supreme Court Judge, a demand which is still pending.
