Nearly 20 acres of land near the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun is under scanner after preliminary investigations found that it was transferred to an Islamic educational institute two decades ago by the Congress government.

The Preliminary investigations revealed that the land which was allotted in 2004 is now being sold in form of small housing plots which may pose security threat to the IMA, top officials said.

When contacted, Vikasnagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vinod Kumar said he has already submitted the preliminary report on the 20 acre land at Dhaulas area near IMA to the District Magistrate Dehradun Savin Bansal for further action.

Confirming the development, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said his government will take strict action in the land allotment issue. Dhami said “Everybody knows that Congress couldn’t set up a Muslim University after failing to come to power in 2022.” “We will take strong action (on the Dhaulas land issue),” Dhami said.

Reacting to the issue, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that this matter dates back to 2004 when the late Narayan Dutt Tiwari was the Chief Minister of the state. He said, “This is an old case from 2004, when Tiwariji was the head of the government. After that, BJP governments came to power several times, and they should have cancelled this land allotment.”

Citing the threat to the IMA’s security, BJP on Tuesday demanded that the government cancel the land allotment immediately. BJP MLA and state party spokesperson Vinod Chamoli met Chief Minister Dhami in this regard and claimed that the investigation in the land allotment has once again exposed the dangerous conspiracies of the Congress government.

He questioned whether the Congress wanted to open a Muslim university under the supervision of its leader Harish Rawat on the same land allotted by the Tiwari government. Chamoli alleged that due to the BJP’s opposition in 2022 and the public’s rejection of the Congress, this intention could not be fulfilled, and now the land is being encroached upon by the land mafia.

Chamoli said that the BJP demands that the government takes back this land under its possession for the safety and security of the IMA.
