Notwithstanding Congress party’s vehement opposition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the centre would grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and will pull out every single infiltrator from Kedarnath to Kanyakumari in India.
Addressing a public rally in Haridwar to mark the completion of four years of the Pushkar Singh Dhami government in Uttarakhand, Shah said these people were not granted citizenship in India because Congress party never wanted them to settle in India. In this regard, he pointed out that when the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was passed, all opposition parties, including the Congress, strongly opposed it.
“But I want to say that Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have as much right to this country as (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi,” he said.
Provoking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah said “Rahul Baba, protest as much as you want. We will grant citizenship; you cannot stop us.”
The Union Minister also congratulated approximately 162 refugees from Afghanistan and Pakistan who received Indian citizenship certificates at the event in Haridwar.
He said that despite Gandhi’s opposition, every single infiltrator across the country, from Kedarnath to Kanyakumari, will be selectively expelled from India.
Referring to special intensive revision (SIR), he asked the gathering whether the names of those who are not Indian citizens should not be removed from the voter list. Stating that amending voter lists was essential to protect democracy, he said, “The BJP strongly supports the SIR being conducted by the Election Commission.”
The Union Minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, many historic works have been accomplished, including the abolition of Article 370, the enactment of the CAA, the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya after five and a half centuries.
Describing the recently implemented new judicial code as the world’s most modern and scientific, Shah said that the Prime Minister has changed 150-year-old laws enacted by the British, which will be fully implemented by 2028. He said that after this, the entire judicial process from the registration of an FIR at the police station to the Supreme Court will take a maximum of three years.
Referring to the BJP and NDA’s continued victory streak from the 2024 general elections to the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the Home Minister claimed that the BJP and NDA will also form governments in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu in 2026. He further added that the year 2027 will be inaugurated by Uttarakhand, where the BJP will once again win the Assembly elections with a landslide victory, achieving a hat-trick of victories.
He stated that between 2004 and 2014, Uttarakhand received only ₹54,000 crores of funds from the central government, while the subsequent Modi government provided ₹1,87,000 crore.
On this occasion, Shah also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various schemes worth Rs 1129.91 crore.
