India on Sunday created history as it retained the T20 Men’s World Cup by crushing New Zealand by a massive 96 runs in the Final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India became the first team to successfully win the T20 World Cup trophy for the second consecutive time after 2024 when Rohit Sharma was captain. India which had won the inaugural trophy in 2007 has now won the T20 WC three times now.
Sanju Samson hit rapid 89 runs in 46 balls, his third consecutive half century in this tournament, to help India to post a massive 255 runs, which was the highest in the history of T20 WC Finals.
Samson was aided by Abhishek Sharma (52), Ishan Kishan (54) and Shivam Dube (26). Captain Suryakumar Yadav was again a big failure as he was out for duck. Experts said Yadav should have sent Tilak Varma and Dube first as he was totally out of form.
As three wickets fell in quick succession when the score was 204, India could not reach 300 runs which was once a possibility.
When New Zealand came to bat, Kiwis never looked comfortable against Indian bowlers especially against Jasprit Bumrah, who again gave a scintillating performance by taking four vital wickets. He also missed a hattrick in the final. Nevertheless, he was the hero in India’s superb victory. Axar Patel also took three wickets.
From New Zealand side, opener Tim Seifert was the only batsman who could score a fitty (52 runs in 26 balls). Captain M Santner made 43 runs.
As captain Yadav lifted the trophy, the celebrations by the Team India began in the Stadium which was packed with full capacity.
