Eight people were killed and two injured in a road accident at Chamba area in Tehri district of Uttarakhand when they were returning home after attending a funeral in Rishikesh on Thursday, police said.
Nearly nine people were travelling in the Bolero vehicle when the accident occurred on Chamba-Koti-Nail road. Most of the victims were members of a family belonging to Ghansali area in Tehri district. They have gone to Rishikesh for the cremation of Santu Lal . Lal’s son Prem Lal, who has performed the last rites, also died in the accident.
The SDRF personnel immediately launched a rescue operation in the area. Two persons who were injured were rushed to a district hospital. Eight people are dead,” said Nitika Khandelwal District Magistrate (DM) Tehri.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed shock over the accident and asked the district authorities to provide best medical care to the injured.
