Heavy rains on Thursday lashed many places in Uttarakhand and several other parts of north India bringing much needed relief to the people from the heatwave conditions.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert saying heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand in the next 1-2 days.
In its alert, the IMD said thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/Hail, gusty winds (speed 50-60 Kmph gusting up to 70 Kmph) and intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand.
This is being seen as a temporary relief from the heatwave conditions in the state. Maximum temperature likely to fall by 2-4°C during next 1-2 days over Uttarakhand, it said. But the maximum temperature likely to rise by 3-5°C during subsequent 3-4 days, it added.
Thundersquall (wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph) likely over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi on 28th & 29th; West Uttar Pradesh on 28th; East Uttar Pradesh on 29th May.
