Three persons were killed and four missing in Uttarakhand’s Devprayag area in Tehri district after an Innova vehicle carrying eight people, mostly from Rajasthan, plunged into the Ganga on Tuesday morning.

A seriously injured child was rescued and sent to hospital, police said.

According to officials, the vehicle (UK08TA-5433) lost control before crashing into the river. Soon, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue operation. SDRF personnel have so far recovered three bodies — two men and one woman — from the river.

Four people, including two men and two women, are still missing. A coordinated search operation across all possible locations along the river was continuing.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
