Indian boxers produced a historic display by winning a record seven gold medals on the penultimate day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, propelling India to fourth place in the overall medal standings and capping the country’s most successful day of the competition.

India ended Saturday with an impressive haul of 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze — after collecting 16 medals across boxing, athletics, para athletics and judo. The remarkable surge lifted the Indian contingent from 10th to fourth in the medal tally, underlining the country’s growing strength across multiple disciplines.

The biggest story of the day came from the boxing ring, where Indian pugilists rewrote history by clinching seven gold and three silver medals, the country’s finest-ever boxing performance at the Commonwealth Games and the highest number of boxing golds won by any nation in Glasgow.

The gold medals came through Sachin (60kg), Ankush (80kg), Sakshi (51kg), Preeti (54kg), Jaismine (57kg), Priya (60kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg). Priya Ghanghas displayed tremendous grit to overcome Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 after losing the opening round, while the other Indian finalists also dominated their respective bouts.

India also collected three silver medals in boxing through Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (55kg), Narender (+90kg) and Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), completing a memorable campaign that showcased the depth of Indian boxing.

The country’s success was not confined to the ring. In athletics, Neeraj Chopra had to settle for silver in the men’s javelin with a best throw of 85.83m, finishing behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga, who claimed gold with 89.75m. India still celebrated a double podium finish as Yash Vir Singh secured bronze with 85.41m.

India’s para athletes continued their golden run, adding top finishes in the men’s 100m T47 and the F57 shot put events, while the athletics squad chipped in with several silver and bronze medals to keep the tricolour flying high.

With one day of competition remaining, India’s record-breaking boxing campaign has emerged as the defining feature of its Glasgow journey. The spectacular showing has not only boosted the medal tally but also reinforced India’s reputation as one of the Commonwealth’s emerging sporting powerhouses, with hopes of adding more medals before the Games conclude.
