Before Trump, Modi too was given lavender-carpet welcome

PrashantNews

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Saudi Arabia in April this year, he was accorded a lavender-carpet welcome which went almost unnoticed.

But when US President Donald Trump arrived in Riyadh a month later on Tuesday, the rich lavender colour carpet has made the mark of the special Saudi-style welcome.

Welcome to Saudi Arabia where lavender has replaced red in welcoming the dignitaries. Introduced in 2021, the lavender carpet reflects the Kingdom’s natural and cultural heritage. The colour is inspired by the wild lavender flowers that bloom across Saudi Arabia’s deserts each spring.

Media reports quoting the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said the lavender carpets are identical to the colour of the Kingdom’s deserts and plateaus in the spring when they are decorated with the colour of lavender flowers and other plants such as desert germander and basil which together form a natural violet.
