A couple was feared drown in the swollen Ganga river at Neem Beach near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand on Monday, police said.

According to initial reports, the girl identified as 22 year old Neha Rathore (Delhi) slipped into the Ganga at Neem Beach and started crying. After hearing the shrieks, her male accomplice Lovepreet (26) also dived into the river to save her. But within minutes, the couple swept away in the fast current of the Ganga which is rising menacingly following heavy rains in the catchment areas.

Specialized divers of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have started search operations to find the couple.
