Ila Arun and Alka Yagnik’s popular song “Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna” has stirred a political controversy in Uttarakhand after a purported video of former BJP MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion went viral where he is seen throwing currency notes on a woman dancing to the tune of the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun movie track.
After the controversy arose, state Congress President Ganesh Godiyal criticized Champion for showering currency notes on the dancer.
But Champion, who joined BJP in 2016 after quitting Congress, hit back alleging that Godiyal and senior Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat had danced at a bar party in Mumbai more than two decades ago.
“I am wrestler and I don’t dance. I was just sitting like Dharmendra in that party (dance bar). But both Harak Singh Rawat and Godiyal danced there,” Champion said in a new video.
Sensing trouble, Godiyal admitted that he had arranged the party for some Congress and BJP MLAs in Mumbai two decades ago but said it was organized on the request of some MLAs. “This was a normal party,” Godiyal said. Godiyal claimed that state BJP President Mahendra Bhatt had also participated in the Mumbai party.
Similarly, Harak Singh Rawat also refused to comment on the allegations saying he would not stoop low just like Champion.
Meanwhile, Bhatt has criticized Godiyal and denied allegations that he took part in the bar party in Mumbai.
