India on Thursday crossed a major hurdle in the T-20 World Cup Super8 match at Chennai when they beat Zimbabwe by 72 runs.

Batting first, India set a huge target of 257 runs for Zimbabwe which looked almost difficult for the African side right from the beginning. From India, Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya scored valuable fifties to take the score to 256 for the loss of only four wickets. Tilak Varma remained not out on 44 runs. Sanju Samson and Sharma gave India a solid start with 48 runs opening wicket partnership before Samson was out for 24 runs. Later, all the Indian batters played well and continued to hit sixes and fours regularly.

As the target was huge, Zimbabwe never looked comfortable. However, B Bennet scored some valuable knocks for Zimbabwe as he remained not out at 97 runs.

Arshdeep Singh again bowled very well taking three wickets for giving only 24 runs in four overs.

India will now meet West Indies on March 1 in yet another crucial Super 8 match to book a place in the semi-finals.
