Amid protests over minimum wages hike in a factory in Motahaldu area in Nainital district, a meeting of the advisory committee on the revision of wages is long-time due in Uttarakhand to discuss such issues.
The last meeting of the advisory committee comprising representatives of the government, industries and workers, was held in 2024 when such wages were revised, sources in industries said.
Some industrialists have suggested that a meeting can be convened to take a fresh look on the issue in view of the recent wage hikes by Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments. “The government can convene a meeting of the advisory committee to discuss the issue,” said Pankaj Gupta, President of the Industries Association of Uttarakhand (IAU).
The issue of wage revision spilled into protests in the Motahaldu factory of Motherson Group where scores of workers were holding protests seeking revision of wages at par with the neibhbouring states.
However, the issue has mostly resolved with majority of the workers calling off the stir and attending the work inside the factory on Tuesday. “A majority of the workers are inside the factory,” said a top police official.
The police has been using mild force to stop outsiders who are allegedly provoking factory workers to continue their strike.
The protest in Motahaldu came after violent unrest was witnessed in Noida on April 13. The Motherson group in filing had stated that the issue concerning the wages was driven by “misinformation”. “This is a broader labour issue affecting multiple industries in Noida and some other cities, driven by misinformation being spread about wage revisions. Our operations remain compliant with all applicable laws with no material impact on the Company. The safety of our employees remains our top priority. The authorities are working closely with the industry to bring things back to normal as quickly as possible,” the company had stated on April 13.
Meanwhile, SSP Nainital Manjunath TC has warned that strong action would be taken against all those people who are trying to cause disruption in Motahaldu area. Police has deployed strong police force around the factory to keep the law and order under control around the factory.

No. 2/25/26-2 Lab.— In exercise of powers conferred by Sub-Section (3) of Section 8 of the Code on Wages,
2019 (No. 29 of 2019), the Governor of Haryana after considering the report submitted by the Committee and
Sub-Committee constituted under section 8 of the Code on Wages, 2019 as per notification no. 2/5/2026-2 Lab the
04-02-2026 to advise the Government in respect of fixation or revision of minimum rates of wages for the State of
Haryana, hereby fixes/revise the basic minimum rates of wages in respect of all the employments with effect from
1st April, 2026 in the State of Haryana, which were previously fixed/revised vide Haryana Government, Labour
Department, Notification 3/42/83-3 Lab dated the 21st October, 2015.
