Pakistan on Saturday failed to enter semifinals in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after they could not achieve a minimum 65 runs victory target despite scoring 212 runs against Sri Lanka in the Super 8 match.

With this, New Zealand on basis of better run rate has now entered the semifinals along with South Africa and England.

On the other hand, India and West Indies would meet in a crucial Super 8 match on Sunday to decide who would enter at the fourth place in the semi-finals.

In the Super 8 match played near Kandy, Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 5 runs but failed to enter the semi-finals.

Pakistan set a target of 213 runs for Sri Lanka with Sahibzada Farhan scoring a superb century with five sixes and nine fours. The openers Farhan along with Fakhar Zaman made superb opening stand of 176 runs in 15.5 overs. But after Pakistan lost the wicket of Zaman (84), the rest of the eight wickets fell very quickly by adding just 36 runs.

But later, Pakistan failed to restrict Sri Lanka below 148 runs to better the run rate against New Zealand.

Pavan Rathnayake played some brilliant shots to score 58 runs. Captain Dasun Shanaka who remained not out at 76 runs failed to give his side the victory as Sri Lanka managed to make 207 runs only five runs less than the target in 20 overs.
