“The forests where the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett lived are truly magical and must be visited at least once in a lifetime,” said Dr. Samir Sinha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (HOFF), Uttarakhand.
Dr Sinha was speaking at an event in New Delhi on Monday to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Jim Corbett. Dr. Sinha shared that he considered himself fortunate to have walked the paths of Corbett’s forests and to have had the privilege of looking after them.
Recalling anecdotes from Corbett’s life, Dr. Sinha highlighted Corbett’s deep love and devotion for the people and wildlife of Kumaon. He also spoke of a poignant moment when he convinced Rugby, the renowned gun-making company in England, to bring back Corbett’s rifle to the Park.
“The huge turnout of villagers who came to pay homage to Corbett Saheb was deeply moving,” he said. The event formed part of the Chittaranjan Park Annual Book Festival. Other speakers included Dr. Dipankar Ghosh, Shantanu Mukharji, Divangshu Datta, and Rishi Majumdar. The gathering drew a large number of Corbett admirers and wildlife enthusiasts.
