Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit and hold bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Xi’s visit is significant as it comes amid efforts by India and China to stabilise bilateral ties following years of tensions along their border.

The Chinese president would participate in the BRICS deliberations and hold bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the summit. His presence also adds significance to the summit as India seeks greater cooperation among BRICS members on trade, development, global governance and other international issues.
