A red alert of very heavy rains was issued in Uttarakhand with the authorities closing schools on Monday in Dehradun and some other areas of the hill state.
One child was washed away and one rescued from a swollen nullah in Shanti Vihar of Dehradun on Sunday, police said. The body of Salman (12) was later recovered from Rispana near Manthrowala. Most of the rivers including Rispana, Bindal andTamsa in Dehradun were in spate following at danger level.
Elsewhere in the state, heavy rains were pounding several parts of the state hampering relief and rescue operation in the disaster-hit Dharali.
A state government statement said a red alert has been issued due to very heavy rains in Dehradun and some other districts of the state including Almora, Nainital, Haridwar, Pauri and Udhamsingh Nagar.
Over 1273 people have been evacuated or rescued so far in different parts of the disaster-hit Uttarkashi district where the rescuers were using modern gadgets and machines to find survivors or bodies buried in the huge debris of the calamitous floods in the Khirgard stream in Dharali. Rescuers were finding an uphill task to clear 50-feet high debris in Dharali even as they were using JCB machines.
