The Centre on Sunday unveiled a fresh set of measures aimed at strengthening the integrity and transparency of public examinations, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing the constitution of a high-powered task force on examination reforms under the leadership of technology expert Nandan Nilekani.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over question paper leaks and examination malpractices in several parts of the country. The task force has been entrusted with recommending comprehensive reforms to make public examinations more secure, transparent and technology-driven. It is expected to examine the entire examination ecosystem and suggest measures to prevent irregularities while enhancing the credibility of recruitment and entrance tests.
In another significant development, Union Minister of State PMO Dr Jitendra Singh is scheduled to introduce The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 27.
While the details of the proposed amendments are yet to be made public, the move signals the government’s intent to further strengthen the legal framework governing public examinations in the country.
The twin initiatives—the formation of a high-powered task force headed by Nandan Nilekani and the proposed amendment to the 2024 law—reflect the Centre’s continued focus on restoring public confidence in the examination system. The issue of examination integrity has gained prominence following a series of alleged paper leak incidents across several states, prompting demands for stronger safeguards and systemic reforms.
The government has maintained that ensuring fair, transparent and credible examinations remains a top priority and that both technological innovation and a robust legal framework are essential to safeguard the future of India’s students and job aspirants.
