A female bear and her cub on Monday morning barged into a school injuring a child and creating scare in Harishankar village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
The bear duo was eventually chased away by teachers. This is the second attack within few days by the bears in the school.
The incident occurred around 9:30 am at the Junior High School in Harishankar village in Pokhri block, when a bear cub attacked a student, who sustained minor injuries. After the attack, the cub’s mother also entered the school and began chasing school children. The horrific incident created panic in the entire school with students closing the doors of classrooms in great fear.
Meanwhile, the surveillance in the area has been heightened after the attack.
Amid escalating human-wildlife conflicts in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced several new initiatives saying his government would set up solar fencing, sensor-based alert systems and sterilization and rehabilitation centres in the hill state to minimize these incidents.
