Dehradun: The principal of a private school in Dehradun was arrested on Tuesday on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, Dr. S. Vohra Sarthak (57), principal and manager of Cambridge School in Paundha area in Dehradun, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father at Premnagar police station.
According to the complaint, the teenager had become withdrawn and unusually quiet over the past few weeks. After repeated questioning by his family, the boy allegedly broke down and revealed that he had been subjected to sexual abuse and unnatural sexual acts by the school principal.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Sections 5(f)/6 and 7/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police arrested Dr. Sarthak on Tuesday and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Officials said the accused also serves as the manager of the school.
Investigators said they are recording statements and collecting evidence as part of the probe. Further investigation into the case is underway.
