Man found dead, woman in critical condition from a house in Vikasnagar area in Doon

Dehradun: A 40-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound and a woman critically injured in a suspected shooting incident inside a rented house in the Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district on Wednesday, police said on  Wednesday.

The incident came to light after residents of Kalyanpur locality heard a gunshot and alerted the police. On reaching the spot, the police found the room locked from inside. After breaking open the door, they discovered a man and a woman lying in pools of blood.

The man had died on the spot, while the injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital. She was later referred to a private hospital in Dehradun due to her critical condition.

The man has been identified identified as Kamlesh (40), a resident of Chakrata area in Dehradun district while the injured woman was identified as Sangeeta Negi (35), a resident of Tyuni also in Chakrata area. The police suspect that the two must have known each other in the past.

During the investigation, police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, an empty cartridge case and a live cartridge from the scene. Forensic experts also collected evidence from the house.

According to the police, the house belongs to Ravindra Bisht and had been rented by Sangeeta, who was living there with her two children. The children were away at school when the incident occurred.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that Sangeeta is married, while Kamlesh was a divorcee. Investigators are probing the nature of their relationship and the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Police said they are examining all possible angles, including murder, attempted suicide and other motives, to ascertain the sequence of events. The woman’s statement is expected to play a crucial role in determining what transpired inside the house before the shooting.
