Dehradun: The Met Department on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Bageshwar districts Uttarakhand on Thursday.

The weather office also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain at isolated places in the hilly districts and Udham Singh Nagar.

According to the IMD, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely across Uttarakhand till July 16, with rainfall activity expected to intensify from July 17 to 21 when fairly widespread to widespread showers are forecast over the state.

The enhanced rainfall has been attributed to a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast, which is likely to trigger increased rainfall across East and Northeast India, eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Western Himalayan region over the next seven days.
