Red alert in Uttarakhand as monsoon becomes active again

A red alert was sounded in parts of Uttarakhand as monsoon conditions became active again in several states in India for the next 6-7 days, IMD said on Saturday.

The red alert was issued for Uttarakhand for Sunday as heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert in Kedarnath area in view of the disturbed weather conditions. Horse and mule services on the Kedarnath trekking route were suspended following a landslide, while the fourth batch of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims was halted at the Dharchula base camp after the road to Gunji was blocked due to a landslide.
Besides, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri,

Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Haridwar and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand. The IMD also said thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand.
