Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday suspended Director (Deputy Inspector General) Home Guards Amitabh Srivastava with immediate effect for his alleged involvement in a Rs 3 crore scam related to the procurement of uniform materials.
Dhami has also ordered the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the matter further, it was officially announced.
The case pertains to the procurement process of uniform materials for the Home Guards during the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26, in which allegations of financial irregularities in the tendering process had surfaced, a government statement said. In a report submitted to the government, Director General, Home Guards Dr P V K Prasad had pointed out that the government allegedly paid Rs 2 crore extra in the purchase of uniforms and other materials for home guards when the market price was only Rs one crore.
The report submitted by Dr Prasad revealed a lack of transparency and violations of rules in the tendering process.
Based on the recommendations of the DG Home Guards, the Chief Minister Dhami suspended the Deputy Commandant with immediate effect and ordered the formation of an inquiry committee.
The Chief Minister clearly stated that the state government is working on a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and that no irregularity or corrupt practice will be tolerated at any level. He said that strict action will be taken against any officer or employee found guilty.
