A young man, who was missing since Feb 9 in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand which was rocked by a spate of murders, has been found buried in the jungles of Haridwar on Tuesday after being allegedly killed by friends at Race Course locality.

The body of Digambar Dhiman (28) was recovered from the jungles of Chidiyapur in Haridwar district, police said. A postmortem is being conducted.

The Uttarakhand Police was able to solve the mystery by arresting a taxi driver identified as Rajnandan of Patel Nagar area in Dehradun. The taxi was used to dump the body in the jungles of Chidiyapur.

Rajnandan told the police that Digambar died after he was “accidentally” hit on the head with a baseball bat during a brawl when they were drinking alcohol at Race Course, a police statement said.

On February 11, Santram Dhiman, resident of Basant Vihar area had informed the police that his son Digambar Dhiman had was missing since Feb 9. On receiving the information, a missing complaint was immediately registered.

During the investigations, the police found that some of Digambar’s friends, who often consumed drugs and alcohol with him, had also been missing from their homes since his disappearance.

Based on the suspicion, the police team activated its own network to gather more information about Digambar and his friends.

The police got some clues that on the night of Feb 9, the friends of Digambar had gone somewhere in a taxi from Racecourse C-Block. Based on CCTV footages, the police tracked the taxi and arrested its driver.

Rajanandan told the police that one Hemant Semwal and his friends had taken the body wrapped in a blanket in his taxi Swift Desire number UK-07-TB-3478, to Chidiyapur and buried there. While coming back, the main accused told him that during an argument, they had accidentally hit the deceased on the head with a baseball bat, causing his death.
