Dogra Welfare Association asks J&K govt to improve road safety measures

The Delhi-based Dogra Welfare Association (DWA) has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to improve road safety measures in the hill regions of the state especially in the accident-prone areas in view of the recent tragic bus accident in Udhampur.

At least 21 people were killed and 51 injured when an overcrowded passenger bus plunged nearly 100 metres down a hillside in Ramnagar area of Udhampur district on April 20.

Observing two minutes silence at a meeting held in Delhi in the memory of those killed in the bus accident, the members of the DWA demand a high-level inquiry into the causes of the accident for fixing accountability and preventing recurrence of such tragic accidents in future.

The meeting was presided over by Jagdish Sharma, senior most member of the Committee. He expressed deep sorrow over the irreparable loss of lives in the unfortunate accident. The DWA members also paid heartfelt tributes to the departed souls.

Speaking on the occasion, Kulbir Singh reiterated the Association’s demand for a high-level inquiry into the causes of the accident. Surjeet Singh Guleria also emphasized the urgent need for improving road safety measures in hilly and accident-prone areas. Satpal Sharma demanded that old buses should not be allowed to ply in hilly areas.

The DWA also sent deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
