Russia’s teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva scripted a memorable chapter in her burgeoning career by winning her first French Open title on Saturday, defeating Poland’s surprise finalist Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in a one-sided women’s singles final at Roland Garros.
The 19-year-old Andreeva displayed remarkable composure and maturity beyond her years as she outclassed the unseeded Chwalinska in just over an hour to capture her maiden Grand Slam crown. The victory makes Andreeva one of the youngest French Open champions after Monica Seles and confirms her status as one of the brightest talents in women’s tennis.
