Russia’s teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva scripted a memorable chapter in her burgeoning career by winning her first French Open title on Saturday, defeating Poland’s surprise finalist Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in a one-sided women’s singles final at Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old Andreeva displayed remarkable composure and maturity beyond her years as she outclassed the unseeded Chwalinska in just over an hour to capture her maiden Grand Slam crown. The victory makes Andreeva one of the youngest French Open champions after Monica Seles and confirms her status as one of the brightest talents in women’s tennis.

Playing in her first Grand Slam final, Andreeva settled quickly despite the occasion, using her powerful groundstrokes and precise court coverage to keep her Polish opponent under constant pressure. She broke Chwalinska’s serve early in the opening set and maintained control throughout, wrapping up the set 6-3.

Chwalinska, who entered the tournament as a qualifier and enjoyed a dream run to the final, struggled to match Andreeva’s consistency and intensity. The Russian continued to dictate play in the second set, breaking serve twice to race ahead before sealing the championship with a confident service game.

The triumph caps a remarkable fortnight for Andreeva, who is expected to propel her further up the world rankings and establish her as a leading contender at future Grand Slam events.

Despite the defeat, Chwalinska earned widespread admiration for her stunning run from the qualifying rounds to the championship match, becoming one of the tournament’s biggest stories.

As Andreeva lifted the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen amid loud applause from the Paris crowd, the young Russian celebrated the biggest achievement of her career and the beginning of what many believe could be a long and successful era in women’s tennis.
