Tragic incident occurred near Gular in Tehri dist

A man along with his son was drowned in the river Ganga at Malakunthi Pul-Gular area in Tehri district on Thursday, police said.

Ashish Thapa (23) was taking bath in the river when he suddenly started drowning. Hearing Thapa’s shrikes, his father Sanjay Thapa dived into the river to rescue his son.

Sanjay too was swept away in the fast currents of the river. Soon, both father and son were disappeared in the river.

A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. But the bodies of the two persons could not be found.

Thapa and his son were a native of Selaquie area in Dehradun district.

Significantly, Sanjay Thapa’s wife Sarita and his second son Saptrishi were also present at the river side when the two drowned in Ganga.  The family was returning home after visiting Devprayag area.
