After the ceasefire
By Dr Vinod Sharma
After the 1971 Indo-Pak war, thousands of civilians and army personnel were killed by terrorists from across the border. The Bombay blasts, the parliament attack, and other multiple terrorist attacks all over India were clearly an act of war against India by Pakistan.
We did nothing in the past except issuing some dossiers on the terror attacks.
When these attacks were taking place, the central government did not take any action. In spite of having eye witnesses in the case of Ajmal Kasab, we treated him as our VIP guest. Some advocates tried to prevent his hanging. We heard all kinds of acts of cowardice!
Now India is in a much better position from all angles, economically, politically, and from a defence point of view. The Pahlgam massacre has given the best opportunity in the hands of Indian government to wipe out all the past mistakes.
Now, after agreeing to ceasefire, that too after intervention of the USA, we have lost all the gains our three wings of the armed forces made.
Now, we are saying that any future attempt of terrorism by Pakistan will be considered as an act of war. Does this mean that we should wait for more innocent civilians to be killed in the future, and then we will declare war against Pakistan?
Acceptance of ceasefire by the Indian government is not acceptable to all those Indians who believe in self-respect. Ceasefire has been agreed when India was on the path to victory. This time all Indians believed that we will break Pakistan so much that its next generations will never see towards India with evil eyes.
There is no apparent reason that why the Indian government has agreed to ceasefire. Till two days back USA government top officials said that this war is a matter between India and Pakistan only. They will settle themselves. Suddenly they have turned their face 180 degrees.
Is it insult to USA that their F16s were brought down by Indian army, so they thought nobody will purchase ammunition from USA in future? India established its supremacy of air defense and air attack in this war with home-made missiles and air defense system.
Or was it under pressure of China whose ammunitions also suffered a heavy loss in this war?
People were hoping that this time the Indian army will wipe out terrorists and their supporters in Pakistan completely.
India has not learnt any lesson from the history where the attackers were first defeated by the Indians. But when they came back after being pardoned, they conquered our country.
This has also been well established in last four wars with Pakistan, where what the Indian army achieved in the battle field was given up by political parties on the negotiating tables.
