After venturing into various sectors like ayurveda, healthcare and consumer goods, the Patanjali Group headed by Yoga Guru Ramdev has announced its entry into the highly competitive civil services coaching sector, saying the initiative is aimed at producing “focused” and value-driven civil servants for the country.
Announcing the move to set up Patanjali Civil Service Academy, Ramdev said the proposed coaching programme would combine preparation for the Civil Services Examination with training in yoga, meditation, discipline and personality development. He said the objective was not merely to help aspirants clear examinations but also to nurture individuals committed to nation-building and ethical public service. The academy will be headed by the coaching guru Avadh Ojha.
The civil services examination, conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission, is considered one of the toughest competitive examinations in the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of candidates every year. The coaching industry catering to these aspirants has grown into a multi-crore sector, with major institutes operating in cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Prayagraj and Hyderabad.
Ramdev said Patanjali’s entry into the field would offer an alternative model of coaching that emphasizes mental well-being, concentration and character development alongside academic preparation. According to him, yoga and meditation can help students manage stress, improve focus and maintain consistency during the demanding preparation process.
The announcement marks the latest expansion of the Patanjali Group beyond its core businesses in Ayurveda, healthcare, education and consumer products. Over the years, the group has diversified into several sectors, including higher education and skill development initiatives.
While details regarding the coaching institute’s location, fee structure and course offerings are yet to be announced, the move is expected to intensify competition in India’s already crowded civil services coaching market.
Analysts say Patanjali’s brand recognition and Ramdev’s influence could attract a significant number of aspirants seeking a blend of conventional coaching and holistic training methods
