With the forest fires raging in Uttarakhand, the met office on Monday said rains in the next few days are likely to help control these incidents.
The forest fire incidents have doubled in the last one week in Uttarakhand as the temperature also rose considerably during the period.
From Feb 15, 2025 to April 21, 2025, only 70 forest fire incidents were recorded affecting an area of 62.42 hectare in the hill state.
But since April 21, the forest fire incidents have more than doubled from 70 to 145, a sharp rise of 75 incidents. During this period, the forest fires also affected a total of 112.80 hectare of area, a statement by the forest department said.
But on Monday, temperature fell considerably in Dehradun and other parts of the hill state.
Met Director Bikram Singh said a fresh spell of thunderstorm is expected in Uttarakhand from March 1 which may continue for one week. During this period, the forest fires would come under control, he said.
Till yesterday, the temperatures were more than 3-4 degree C in Dehradun and some other parts of the state. But from today, the temperature has fallen to 35.8 degree C, a fall of two degrees in Dehradun city. In the next one week, the temperature is expected to hover around 35 degree C in Dehradun.
