Fifth seed Elena Rybakina came from behind after three games down in the third set to defeat top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-4,6-4 and win her maiden Australian Open title at Melbourne Park on Saturday.

Rybakina won five straight games in the third set and then closed out with an ace on her first championship point.

Interestingly, Sania Mirza in her comments before the final match had stated that Rybakina must win her first set in order to clinch the cup otherwise she will be “blown away”.
