Shedding the tag of chokers, South Africa on Saturday created history as it won the world Test Championship, its first major iCC title, beating Australia convincingly by five wickets in the final at Lord’s.

On the fourth day of the one-off test, Proteas easily chased 282 runs target by losing only three more wickets with the help of opener Aiden Markram’s precious 136 runs contribution. Markram scored a brilliant century yesterday to put South Africa in the sight of the victory.

At the close of stumps, Proteas were just 69 runs away with eight wickets in hands. Skipper Temba Bavuma’s wicket was the first to fall this morning when the score was 217. He could add only one run to out for 66 runs. But Markram remained cool and kept taking singles and twos to frustrate the Australian pace attack. Most of the Australian bowlers including Skipper Pat Cummins and spinner Nathan Lyon failed to show any magical spell.

Markram, who was the hero of the final match, was adjust player of the match.
