A youth belonging to minority community was arrested on Tuesday for raping a minor girl in the capital Dehradun of Uttarakhand, a top police official said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun Ajai Singh said the arrest of Kaif, son of Shahzad, came after the police began investigations in the case taking suo moto cognizance of the incident.
Acting on the information received from the government Doon hospital regarding a minor girl being admitted to the maternity ward in a very serious condition and subsequent abortion, the police swung into action and gathered more information. It was found that the minor girl was living with her elder sister in Durga Mandir Brahmanwala area and a youth named Kaif, a neighbour, raped the girl by luring her. The girl also became pregnant.
The accused Kaif fed her abortion pills without consulting doctors. Soon the girl’s health deteriorated on the night of May 9 and was rushed to the Doon hospital in a serious condition by her family members. The victim is presently undergoing treatment in the Doon hospital.
“Keeping in mind the sensitivity and seriousness of the said case, the SSP immediately registered a case in connection with the incident and ordered a strict action against the culprit,” a police statement said.
Police registered a case under relevant sections and immediately arrested the accused Kaifi son of Shahzad, resident of Brahmapuri, falling under the Patel Nagar police station. The case is being investigated thoroughly. The remaining proceedings are underway.
