Police have arrested seven students for allegedly indulging in hooliganism in Dehradun and recommended disciplinary action against them.
Police said the incident occurred on Sunday in the Bidhouli area of Premnagar, where they received information about a violent brawl between two groups. The police team tried to pacify both groups, but instead of calming down, the students allegedly became more aggressive and continued fighting using weapons like rods.
“We have tried to send a strong message to youths that the public nuisance or brawls at public places will not be tolerated,” said a top police official.
In view of the possibility of a breach of peace and disturbance of public order, police took prompt action and arrested seven youths from the spot.
Police said all the arrested youths are students of a private college in Premnagar. A report has been sent to the institution recommending disciplinary action and their expulsion.
The arrested students have been identified as Aryan Patni (21), Abhay Kohli (21), Nathan Barreto (21), Krish Upadhyay (21), Yug Nagar (21), Arpit Tomar (19) and Kavi Atri (20).
