The Nainital police on Tuesday conducted a flag match in Haldwani’s Banbhulpura area, a day before the Supreme Court’s hearing in the railway land encroachment case.
The Police said elaborate security arrangements had been made to maintain peace and law and order in the sensitive areas as the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter on Wednesday.
The flag march was conducted through several areas, including the railway station, Line No. 17, Indiranagar, Mujahid Chowk, Gopal Mandir, Thokar, Shani Bazaar Road, Taj Masjid, Gandhi Nagar, Line No. 8, Choragaliya Road, Taj Chauraha and Bhardwaj Chauraha with participation of personnel from the local police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), anti-riot teams, bomb disposal squad, fire services and specialised drone teams.
The police said checking of suspicious persons and preventive detention of suspects would continue. Verification drives are also being conducted, while CCTV cameras and drones are being used for continuous surveillance.
Nainital SSP Dr Manjunath TC directed police officers to remain fully prepared to deal with any situation and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb peace or law and order.
The SSP appealed to people to respect the Supreme Court’s decision and cooperate with the administration. He also urged people not to believe any rumours or unverified information on social media.
Police said they were closely monitoring social media platforms and warned that misleading or factually incorrect posts and comments capable of affecting law and order would invite legal action.
