Congress worker dies in freak accident at venue of Rahul Gandhi’s Doon programme

Dehradun: A day before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s programme, a 65-year-old party worker died after an iron rod fell on him at Bannu School ground in Dehradun on Thursday.

Amar Mehta, was supervising the arrangements beneath the tent erected for the Chhatron Ki Goonj event when an iron rod suddenly fell from the structure and struck him on the head.

Mehta suffered a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to a nearby CMI hospital, where doctors declared him dead, Congress sources said.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Voice of Students) programme at the Bannu School ground on Friday. During the event, he is expected to interact with students on issues such as question paper leaks, unemployment and other concerns affecting the youth.
