Dehradun: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed deep grief over the death of Congress worker Amar Mehta, who was killed in a tragic accident while preparations were underway for the party’s programme in Dehradun.
In a post on social media, Gandhi described Mehta’s death as “extremely painful” and said he met the bereaved family to offer his heartfelt condolences.
“The tragic accident during the preparations for our programme in Dehradun, in which our Congress colleague Amar Mehta lost his life, is deeply painful. Today, I met his family and expressed my sincere condolences. The sudden loss of a dedicated colleague is a profound shock for all of us,” Gandhi said.
He assured the family that the Congress party would stand firmly with them during this difficult time.
“I and the entire Congress party stand strongly with the grieving family in this hour of sorrow,” he said, paying his humble tribute to the deceased worker.
Mehta, 65, died on Thursday evening after an iron rod from a tent erected for Gandhi’s programme allegedly fell on him while preparations were in progress at Bannu School Ground in Dehradun.
