Heavy rains continued several areas in Uttarakhand on the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the southwest monsoon spread to more parts of north India covering Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh also, IMD said.
“The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, entire Daman & Diu, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh & Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh & Ladakh, entire Jammu-Kashmir, and some parts of Haryana & Punjab, today the 01st July, 2026,” IMD said.
The monsoon, which had entered most parts of the state on Tuesday, extended to all remaining areas on Wednesday. Several places recorded moderate to heavy rainfall, with Dehradun receiving 56 mm, Jolly Grant 52.5 mm, Laksar 49 mm, Mussoorie 43 mm and Rudraprayag 32.5 mm. Rain was also reported from Haldwani, Pauri, Bhimtal, Kirtinagar and Khanpur.
The rainfall led to a significant fall in day temperatures. Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 25.8 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal, while Pantnagar registered 30.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the seasonal average.
The weather office has issued an Orange Alert for Thursday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Bageshwar districts. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations.
In view of the forecast, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has directed district administrations to remain on high alert. Authorities have been asked to closely monitor vulnerable areas, keep disaster response teams ready and ensure prompt action in the event of rain-related emergencies.
State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman appealed to residents and pilgrims to follow weather advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and local administration and to immediately contact disaster control rooms in case of any emergency.
