They were born together, they played together and even they died together. This is the sad story of twins Zain Ali and Urba Fatima, who were born within a gap of five minutes 12 years ago.

The brother and sister were killed in the heavy Pakistani shelling in Poonch area in Jammu and Kashmir on May 7 at a time when they were literally running for their lives, media reports said.

Recounting the tragedy, Adil Pathan, the maternal uncle of the twins, said he got a call from the twins on the fateful morning of May 7 about the heavy Pakistani shells which were being pounded on Poonch. The twins said they should be taken away from the area immediately.

Without waiting, Pathan rushed to bring the family and asked twins’ mother Ursha to come out along with the family members.

The twins and their father Rameez came out first. The moment they started running, a heavy shell exploded killing the twins instantly. Father Rameez too was injured. Ursha, however, escaped unhurt.

Rameez, who was taken to a government hospital in Jammu, has now recovered considerably.
