Two gangsters from Rajasthan were arrested after an early morning encounter with the police in Dehradun’s Prem Nagar area on Thursday.

Three other members of the gang managed to escape, police said.

The encounter occurred when the gangsters rammed their car into a police barrier at Nayagaon outpost in Premnagar area and fled towards Selaqui. A police team chased the vehicle, prompting the gangsters to abandon the car. In their bid to flee, the gangsters opened fire on the police personnel. In the ensuing encounter, two of the gangsters were nabbed. One of the two received bullet injuries on a foot.

The injured gangster was identified as Rinku Meena (30), a resident of Mandawar in Rajasthan’s Dausa district. He was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The second arrested accused, Vinod Meena (32) is a resident of Jhareda area in Rajasthan’s Karauli district.

Police recovered two country-made pistols, spent cartridges and live ammunition from the arrested men. The Swift car used in the incident, bearing a Rajasthan registration number, was also seized.

Police said both accused have criminal records and are wanted in several cases in Rajasthan. A search operation is underway to nab the three absconding accomplices.
