A teenager was raped and killed by a 20-year-old boy who slashed her face and abdomen with a blade in Udhamsingh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, a top police official said on Wednesday.
The boy identified as Rajiv Singh has been arrested, SSP Udhamsingh Nagar district Manikant Mishra said.
“The boy first raped the teenager. When she resisted, he crossed all limits of brutality —twisting and breaking her arm, strangling her unconscious, and then killing her by slashing her face and abdomen with a sharp blade,” Mishra said.
The heinous crime occurred in village Amiawala in Jaspur area of Udhamsinghn Nagar district on Tuesday and the girl’s body was recovered in a sugarcane field 150 meters from her home. The brutal murder of the girl has caused a big uproar in the village with people strongly condemning the incident and demanding an immediate stern action.
Sensing the gravity of the incident, SSP Mishra immediately took the cognizance of the brutality and inspected the scene. He formed 10 police teams to solve the crime and issued clear instructions that the perpetrators should not escape under any circumstances.
The police conducted door-to-door searches in the village. A list was compiled of youths who had previously been involved in criminal activities or had been brought to the police stations. The activities of outsiders were also monitored.
During the questioning, the police started zeroing in on one suspect identified as Rajiv Singh as he was changing statements that arose suspicion.
When the accused was taken into custody and interrogated intensively, he initially tried to evade the charge, but in the face of pressure and some evidences, he broke down and confessed to his crime.
The accused confessed that after finding the girl alone in the field, he raped her and, fearing his identity would be exposed, murdered her.
On the basis of information provided by Rajiv Singh, the police recovered crucial evidence from the crime scene and his home which include a blood-stained sharp blade, blood-stained clothes worn at the time of the incident and some other forensic evidence recovered from the sugarcane field.
