No internet as massive anti-encroachment drive launched in Jaipur

Authorities in Jaipur have suspended mobile internet services in several parts of the city ahead of a major anti-encroachment drive scheduled for Monday, citing concerns over law and order and the possibility of misinformation spreading on social media.

The restrictions came into effect from midnight and will remain in force for 24 hours in the Jaipur North and Jaipur East police districts.

The action has been taken as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) prepares to launch a large-scale operation to remove illegal structures and encroachments identified across the city. According to officials, the list of structures marked for action includes some religious structures making the operation particularly sensitive from a public-order perspective.

Media reports quoting district authorities said the temporary suspension of mobile internet services is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing the circulation of rumours, inflammatory content and misleading information that could disrupt peace during the demolition exercise. Emergency and voice-call services will remain available.

The anti-encroachment campaign is part of a broader effort by civic authorities to reclaim public land and ensure compliance with court directives. In recent months, the Rajasthan High Court has pushed authorities to intensify action against illegal encroachments across Jaipur and maintain public roads and government land free from unauthorized occupation.

Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened, with police personnel and administrative officials deployed in sensitive areas. Authorities have appealed to residents to maintain calm, cooperate with officials and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media platforms.

The operation is expected to be one of the largest anti-encroachment drives undertaken in Jaipur this year, with officials closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the exercise is completed peacefully and without any disruption to public order.
