Yet another spell of snowfall at higher reaches of Garhwal Himalayas

In yet another spell, higher reaches of Garhwal Himalayas including Kedarnath and Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib areas continued to receive intermittent snowfall as heavy rains lashed many parts of north India including Uttarakhand.
During the past 48 hours, the higher reaches of Garhwal Himalaya (above 4000 meters) are receiving snowfall. In Kedarnath, pilgrims were seen enjoying snowfall and raising “Har Har Mahadev” slogans in excitement. Similar scenes were witnessed in Hemkund Sahib also.
Dehradun recorded 25 MM of rainfall during the past 24 hours, Met Scientist Rohit Thapliyal said.
The temperature in Dehradun and other places continued to fall considerably making the weather conditions in the first week of June very pleasant. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature on Tuesday fell to 27.6 degree C. The minimum temperature in Dehradun fell further down to17.3 which was -4.9 degree departure from normal. Yesterday, the minimum temperature in Dehradun was 19.8 degree C. The temperature in Dehradun has fallen by 8-10 degree in the past 3-4 days in the state capital.
Rain or thunderstorm may continue for another 2-3 days in Dehradun and other areas of the hill state. From June 7 onward, the sky will be mainly clear, the met department said.
The met department has predicted that monsoon rains are likely to arrive in Uttarakhand after June 10. “It all depends on the arrival of monsoon in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, then we can only predict the exact date,” said Thapliyal.
