A revenue sub-inspector, locally known as Patwari, was suspended on the charges of corruption by Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal in Lakhamandal area, officials said on Friday.
Following a complaint of illegal extortion in the Lakhamandal area of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand, Bansal suspended Revenue Sub-Inspector Jaylal Sharma with immediate effect. During the suspension period, Sharma has been attached to the Registrar Kanungo office in Kalsi Tehsil.
Residents of Lakhamandal, Chakrata, Dehradun, had submitted a joint complaint letter to the District Magistrate, along with an affidavit and audio evidence (on a pen drive). The complaint alleged that Sharma, since his posting in the area, was “openly extorting money” in cash and through online transactions from farmers and poor people belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, under the pretext of preparing various documents.
The preliminary inquiry conducted by the District Magistrate found the allegations to be of a serious nature, necessitating a fair and transparent investigation. Based on the prima facie evidence of violation of the Uttarakhand State Employees Conduct Rules, the District Magistrate ordered the immediate suspension of Sharma.
The District Magistrate has clarified that a zero-tolerance policy is being adopted in cases of corruption and illegal extortion, and the strictest action will be taken against any officer or employee found guilty.
